I feel as though the visual appeal on this is that the colonies and connected with roads showing they they work together. There by sharing different resources and materials to stay functional. This map is factually correct because the cities and bodies of water are in the correct places. Having connected and intertwined colonies can solve many different problems with the different climate and different resources.
